Treating Depression With Saffron

Reports of using saffron to treat depression date back as far as the 14th century, where discussion of its use was found in a medical textbook. Recent double-blind studies have affirmed its use as an effective treatment of depression.

Ancient Persians steeped saffron in a tea to treat melancholy, and evidence shows Phoenicians marketed saffron for this use as well.

Saffron is an ideal homeopathic treatment and gives results on par with traditional antidepressants.

A November 2006 study published by the Arak University of Medical Sciences found that saffron significantly improved mood in depressed study participants. Two groups, one receiving saffron and the other a placebo, were studied over a period of six weeks. Participants from the saffron group reported great improvement of their depression symptoms. Even patients with documented brain disorders improved over the placebo group after being on saffron.

Saffron is also known for its soothing and relaxation properties and can be used to treat sleep disorders, nervous conditions, and effectively reduce stress levels.

Saffron is effective at prompting a return to former levels of happiness and contentment and can be a whole-body stimulant for improved energy and inner balance.
