Treating Menstrual Cramps With Saffron

In addition to its known analgesic properties, saffron also has an antispasmodic effect and is an excellent home remedy for menstrual cramps. Using saffron to treat menstrual cramps is a good natural alternative to over the counter medicines.

To treat menstrual cramps, boil one cup of milk and add about one teaspoon of powdered saffron. Reduce heat and simmer for about two minutes to make a tea. You can add honey to this for a delicious, soothing treat.

Since saffron is also a very effective soothing herb, a cup of saffron tea before bed can be just the thing to ease your menstrual cramps and help you drift off to a comforting sleep.

Caution: Because of a risk of miscarriage, pregnant women should never take saffron. Also, saffron should be limited to no more than 1.5 grams per day as it is possible to overdose on saffron.
